I like Cafferty more and more every day!

After the frustrating and infuriating performance the media desk clerks gave today, this is worth watching over and over again.

Why is MSNBC Trying to Censor Maddow?

In case you missed it, Rachel Maddow dealt an awesome smack down to MSNBC's resident bigot Pat Buchanan today. Here's the video of it. Unfortunately, MSNBC is only offering the part before the smack down and the part after the smack down. Interesting. Here's the whole segment, but the smackdown starts about 4:45. Pass it around.

Rachel ROCKS!!

Who's the Liar Now?

FactCheck.org looks at the central policy attack in McCain's new ad and declares "that's false." It turns out that despite McCain's claim, Barack Obama does not support raising taxes on electricity.

And since it's obvious the media is far more concerned with getting those McBush BBQ invitations than telling the truth, Barack Obama has launched a new website that will focus specifically on documenting and fact checking the crazy yet so lame McBreezy campaign attacks. It's aptly called The
Low Road Express.

The Media Sucks

"Did Obama Accuse McCain of Running a Racist, Xenophobic Campaign?"

That's Jake Tapper's headline to his latest attempt at journalism. I'm not going to post a link 'cuz I figure there's already enough wingnuts who know where he spews his lies and innuendo.

I just wanted to memorialize my comment, which as of this moment hasn't been scrubbed. My comment to his story was:

Tryin' to get an invite to the next McSurge BBQ, Jake? Keep suckin', you hack.

Yeah, it's crass, but I don't care. I'm so fucking sick of the total lack of professionalism or intelligence among the cable & network desk clerks and the print media. I'm sick to death of too many people letting them get away with saying/writing anything they damn well please. It's bad enough elected government officials can break the law and never ever have to worry about any penalties at all, but now the media is exempt from telling the truth and can openly and brazenly lie about anybody anytime anywhere? Back in the day, that was called slander and libel. Today it's called being a "reporter" with Fox, ABC, CNN, WaPo, NYT, etc.

Update: I've been scrubbed! Ha! Wingnuts so hate to be told they're idiots. So, I reposted it with an "I'm still waiting for an answer, Jake."

Idiots!

Bears are Cool

This story made me a little sad today.

Bear stuck in jug is shot

. . . The wild black bear -- whose head got stuck inside a 2½-gallon clear plastic jug presumably while foraging for food -- ambled into the city of Frazee, about 200 miles northwest of the Twin Cities, during the town's busy Turkey Days celebration.
. . .

In the six days that followed the initial sighting of the bear, officials
tried to trap it and tranquilize it in numerous locations, but to no
avail.

By the time the animal showed up in Frazee, conservation
officers decided it needed to be killed to avoid conflicts with humans.

. . .

Doesn't seem to me like they tried hard enough to tranquilize this poor bear. Yeah, I know, I wasn't there, but geez, 6 days and they couldn't figure out what to do except kill it?

Mr. Potato(e) Head

Last night, KO made my heart sing when he reported that Dan Quayle might actually be one of the "celebrities" on Dancing with the Stars this fall. Link.

Man o Man, I hope ole Dan makes it. I need some laughs.

At least the stock market is up -- for now

Within the last 5 minutes, I learned that Mervyn's has joined Steve & Barry's, Linens 'n Things, and other retailers and filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy and that some 6,000 print journalists have lost their jobs in recent months.

It's a good thing this recession crap is all in our heads, eh?

Is Gallup in the HotTub with the McSurge bunch?

C'mon, admit it. You only care about polls when your guy, your cause, your whatever is doing well. I know that's my stance, even though I faithfully visit Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight.com even though I have little clue what I'm actually looking at.

But, I learned something about poll data yesterday and I gotta thank KO for it. I learned what "LV" and "RV" means. It was one of those a-ha moments - like figuring out what H/T and O/T means in the blogosphere - ok, so I haven't figured out H/T yet, but I'm working on it.

Anyway, LV is Likely Voters and RV is Registered Voters. So, now I feel like I know what I'm looking at when I visit RCP and you can, too.

So, this morning there was a Gallup geek on MSNBC with one of the cable desk clerks and she was talking about yesterday's USA Today/Gallup (LV) poll showing McSurge up by 4 and the Gallup Tracking (RV) poll showing Obama up by 6. Why are those 2 Gallup polls so different the desk clerk asks and the Gallup geek said he wasn't sure but it was probably 'cuz they were run about the same time! She tries to pin him down (maybe she knows LV and RV, too), but he ain't having any of it. He keeps repeating that it's due to two polls being run at about the same time. Never once does he tell us that it's two entirely different polls and that the RV one showing Obama up by 6 is the more reliable of the two in that it involves registered voters instead of just likely voters.

This is a crazy insignificant bit of drivel, but it seems everybody else beat me to their own blogs with all of my other good post ideas for the day.

Peace

BREAKING NEWS: 5.8 Quake Hits SoCal

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- A magnitude-5.8 earthquake has struck just east of Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was about 2 miles southwest of Chino Hills and about 5 miles southeast of Diamond Bar, the USGS said. Chino Hills is about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. link.

Didja feel it? Didja? Huh? Didja?

NBFD, really. I live just north of the Mexico border and work in downtown San Diego (considerably south of L.A.) in a 4-story building that was built in 1898. We felt it. Actually, I heard it first - metal supply cabinet was kinda squeaking then I felt the floor rolling. Short and sweet. Just long enough to ask my office mate if she could feel it. The 100+ year old building we work in held up quite nicely.

Ok, back to work and/or blogging.

I'm working on a rant about the Gallup poll geek that was on MSNBC this morning, but so far haven't found any video of this clown outright lying....

Why didn't McCain want to see the troops in March?

While McCain is busy throwing stones at Obama, folks should remember this McCain decision to NOT visit the same troops but showed up "for the money."BTW--By "The McCain Standard" I guess we should give him credit for being a part of the marketing of the war that created the dead and wounded troops in the first place, right?

Obama's in Germany - McSurge THINKS he's in Germany, too

"I'd love to give a speech in Germany," McCain said. "But I'd much prefer to do it as President."

I personally loved the photo op with Miss Lindsey in front of a fudge and sausage haus.
So appropriate, no?

Gag!

Yeah, I know this post lacks coherency, but I just hate these two so much, it clouds my rationality. It's a good thing Howdy Doody wasn't there, too. My head would most certainly have exploded.

On to the cheese aisle!

Obama in Berlin? FEH!

215,000 applauding, American flag-waiving, cheering Berliners? Pshaw!

Andrea I'm-Still-Mad-'cuz-HRC-Didn't-Win Mitchell said McBush coulda made that speech! Talk about bitter - she is the quintessential definition of it.

But wait ... I just heard that McSurge held a huge rally and thousands of his supporters were there. Don't know where but he was in Ohio this morning.

Oh, this just in ....

I don't even wanna know what the shadow is on this guy's leg ...

Speaking of Kansas .....

This guy's Campaign Bleg alone is worth a $10 contribution. Give it up for Sean Tevis!

McSame Says He Doesn't Know If Obama's a Socialist

I don't know about you, but I find this hysterical. For more than a few reasons. First, McBush was in Kansas doing a little campaigning, and when they decide to interview him after his rah-rahing, he ended up being asked about his opponent, Barack Obama! Johnny boy is doing a lot of sighing these days, have you noticed?

They asked him if he thought Obama was a freakin' socialist and he said he didn't know??!!! WTF? McBush is such an idiot that despite their whining about how much media attention Obama's getting and how little 5th From The Bottom Of His Class is getting and then he goes on merrily answering more questions about Obama's record and views and giving Obama even more media attention. Thanks, John, even though you suck at promoting our guy for prez. Just goes to show ya that being the frontrunner for president isn't as good as free BBQ at the Phoenix Ranch, but keep trying.

Oh, and I need to correct David Gregory. Yesterday he was doing a piece on Who's Our Favorite Media Head and in between Rachel Maddow and Tony Blankley, David slipped in a "so, Obama is the one getting a free ride from the press." They're so cute, aren't they? There's no way Obama is getting a free ride from the press, you idiot. If Obama truly was on the imaginary free ride we sure as hell wouldn't be in Day 5 of How Much Will Jackson's Comments Hurt Obama mode!

If today's Congress Presided During Watergate

Saturday, July 12, 2008

Busy day so far and it's only 10 a.m.

My 22 yr-old son was released after 2-1/2 weeks in jail - first (and better be his last) offense for trying to get rich moving weed. No cigarette smoking while he was in so he and I have decided to do the patch thang together. I'm long overdue for quitting. Wish me luck. Although he showed up with a half-smoked Black 'n Mild dangling outta his mouth. Yuck!

Let's see, Tony Snow died today. R.I.P. He was a good guy, despite being a republican. And he was YOUNGER than me!

I'm off to see what else is happening in the world. More coffee and more no cigarettes. I wish I had the know-how to get this blog some readership. I'm thinking having something interesting to read would be the first step, so I guess I'm doomed to talking to myself for awhile.

Peace.

Obama Broke My Heart Yesterday

But, life goes on. I'm seeing several emails from EFF and ACLU regarding their not letting this just go. I haven't had time to read them yet, so I suggest you do. Their efforts will probably not turn this awful, awful legislation around, but what the hell, right?

I've suspended all financial contributions to my candidate's campaign, but not to downticket candidates or to other very worthy causes - like these and StrangeBedfellows PAC.

Peace.

In Honor of the new FISA Bill

In honor of the new FISA bill, at some point in every phone conversation I'm going to make sure to say, loud and clear, FUCK YOU, BUSH or FUCK OFF, BUSH or something equally caustic!

Give 'em something to listen to while they secretly wiretap our phones.

What 4th Amendment? What Constitution?

I am too disgusted to even form more than a few coherent sentences today. The Senate has just said it's ok that our idiot president can wiretap us all he wants in secret for any reason and that all the prior years of warrantless wiretapping he did was ok, too! What a bunch of fucking idiots!

Of course, the dolts in our MSM are too busy covering Christie Brinkley's divorce trial to cover this issue which has been brewing for over a week now, but they'd probably fuck it up like they do everything else anyway.

From what I understand, Obama broke his promise and did NOT filibuster any amendment that included immunity. He did, however, vote for the Bingaman Amendment which required that the Senate wait until the Inspector General's audit of the NSA program is complete before immunizing the telecoms. The Bingaman Amendment failed.

Your best bet for an honest and realistic take on what the Senate has done to our 4th Amendment rights this morning is at Glenn Greenwald.

Just Say "NAY"

How many of our senators voted to invade Iraq because they didn't read the NIE or didn't read enough of it or didn't understand enough of it? Five plus years later we're more deeply entrenched in that quagmire than ever before with no end in sight and all our "I wish I hads" don't mean a thing.

How many of our senators are going to vote for the upcoming FISA bill because they haven't read it or won't read it or won't understand enough of it? This is what scares us about your stance on this corrupt piece of legislation, Senator Obama. So many of us believe that if you or your experts really read it, there is no way you'd be voting for it. Absolutely, NO WAY!

We know that you know that the president has no power to "order" any US citizen to do anything, let alone to break the law, yet there is a wall of justification for this bill which has been built with the last 8 years of Bush's corrupt monarchy that has led Americans to believe the president does have that right! You and I both know, HE DOES NOT! Never has had that right. Yet, you stand behind this bill's passage.

We don't understand why your experts and consultants haven't told you this, Senator. We don't understand how your background in Constitutional law could permit you to allow this bill to pass. How can you stand by and watch it pass knowing it's wrong?

Yes, it's true that your one vote won't turn this bad piece of legislation around, but that's not the issue. The issue is your unwillingness to stand up for what you believe in, for what you know is right and say so. The flip-flop accusers need to be damned. They're going to say it regardless. The Republicans have nothing to crow about, nothing to point at and proudly say "yes, we were responsible for that wonderful thing." All they have is the ability to try and focus Americans on the perceived shortcomings of the Democrats. That's the only ammunition they have. They have diversion, we have Barack Obama as our nominee!

Today, CNN accused you of flip-flopping on our withdrawal from IRAQ, yet the video showed the exact opposite - your very consistent stand on that issue. They're going to say whatever their corporate shills want them to say. However, what we want them to say is that despite the insurmountable odds of defeat in the Senate you stood strong and proud and voted against this badly framed, corrupt piece of legislation. That you voted to uphold our 4th Amendment rights because you believe we can maintain national security without compromising even one word of our Constitutional rights!

To put it a different way, Glenn Greenwald wrote today:

The bill thus ensures that what [Nancy] Soderberg [LA Times]
admits is lawbreaking by both the Government and telecoms will never be
addressed or resolved by a court of law. It shields the lawbreakers from
accountability in court. That's its whole purpose. She has to know that, and yet
here she is, telling people that this bill is a just and good policy because it
"allows the courts to determine the legality of these actions." Can anyone
coherently deny that it's outright lying to claim that this bill "allows the
courts to determine the legality of these actions" when it does the exact
opposite?

Help stop their lying, Senator Obama. Don't let Bush & Co. steamroll yet another falsehood on the American people. We're counting on you.
